Achiote (Bixa orellana)

Description

Achiote, (Bixa orellana) is an arborescent botanical species from the intertropical regions of America, cultivated specifically in the Andes of Peru, since pre-Columbian times. From its fruit the homonymous spice is obtained, used as a coloring and condiment in popular food. Achiote is mainly used for its fruits, which have antioxidant benefits, preventing premature aging.
